The why...

The Outdoor Provedore was created by Cam and Sim Boyd, owners of Heirloom Naturally, a small scale artisan market garden in Mansfield, Victoria, growing high quality, old fashioned vegetables and seeds.

"In 2020 during the COVID lockdowns, the state government declared farmers markets an essential service, and allowed them to reopen to provide communities with access to quality food - the condition being that the market had to be food and beverage based. We began talking about the number of farmers markets that had seemingly strayed from their core mission of promoting authentic farmers and their produce - focusing instead on products not created by farmers; and sadly, in some cases, were allowing resellers of produce, who sneakily repackage it as their own.

Wanting to support authentic producers, and ensure our town had access to high quality, wholesome produce, we began dreaming of a genuine, authentic farmers market and the idea for The Outdoor Provedore was born."

What is a provedore?

A Provedore is a term used to describe a supplier of high quality food products that are typically sourced locally. The term originated in Italy, where it was used to describe a person who supplied food to the royal court. In modern times, the term is used to describe a wide range of food suppliers, including butchers, bakers, and grocers.

Provedores are known for their emphasis on quality and their commitment to sourcing the best possible ingredients for their customers. They often work closely with local farmers and producers to ensure that their products are fresh, seasonal, and of the highest quality.

The word "providore" is believed to have originated in Australia and is commonly accepted as the modern spelling.

As we believe in food provenance, good old fashioned service, and unsurpassed quality, we have chosen to remain with the old fashioned word - provedore.
